VIDEO: Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci

Up and coming white female rapper Kreayshawn unleashes a swagged out track that went viral in a matter of hours.

Though Kreayshawn has put out some material prior to this track, none of it measures up to  the (accidental?) genius of "Gucci Gucci," which lays waste to brand name recognition. "Gucci Gucci" is the culmination of this exact moment in music, a fascinating trainwreck combination of stoner culture with hipster styles, dubstep beats, and unapologetic feminine swag. Kreayshawn manages to give the finger to everything that's hot right now while being everything that's hot right now. That's not to say that Kreayshawn is here to stay - she could very well be a one (s)hit wonder, but this one track is a keeper. Careful, the hook is highly contagious.

Maybe I'm not giving it enough credit, but Drake's debut studio venture, Thank Me Later, felt like a wreck of mediocrity that failed to live up to the hype generated by his mixtape, So Far Gone, with its earnest lyrics, fresh blend of R&B and hip-hop, and indie sense of cool. Post-TML Drake has been a whirlwind of unremarkable features, hooks, and one-offs that have kept me hitting the snooze button. With these two tracks, however, Drake hops back on the saddle and proves he's still got it.

On "Dreams Money Can Buy," Drake teams up with his go-to beatsmith, Noah "40" Shebib. With its hypnotic indie sampling of Jai Paul's "BTSTU," the track reminds us of why Drake was once the darling child of the blogosphere, with his combination indie-sampling (Tears for Fears, Lykke Li, Santigold, to name a few) and unabashedly emotion-laden song-raps.

Then Young Angel added a few bars to British producer SBTRKT's already epic track, "Wildfire" to make an excellent genre blending remix. True, Drake may not be the best spitter around, but his flow fits nicely over the pulsating electro/dubstep beat before Yukimi Nagano of Swedish indie/electro act, Little Dragon, provides some exquisite vocals.

The two songs, with their darker, electro and indie vibes have me hopeful for Drake next endeavors. Especially since the rumormill is all abuzz with whisperings of a collaboration between Drake and his fellow Toronto native, The Weeknd.
