The Weeknd - Do It

Unreleased material from before House of Balloons surfaces from Toronto R&B act, The Weeknd.

Before The Weeknd emerged as the dark horse darling child of the music world, 20-something Abel Tesfaye was part of a group called The Noise. Tesfaye lends his vocals to much more radio-ready R&B tunes than the emotive, haunting tracks off The Weeknd's debut mixtape, "House of Balloons."

"Do It" is one of a handful of written-for-radio tracks in which Tesfaye croons sweet pop nothings in a falsetto that holds its own against the likes of The-Dream and Justin Timberlake. The shimmering synth-laden production is a far cry from the inventive cuts off The Weeknd's mixtape, and is instead shamelessly generic, but The Noise manages to do generic well. Tesfaye's vocals shine perfectly over the beat that would sit right at home on the radio any time after 2009.

Though perhaps not an entirely spectacular track on its own, "Do It," along with the other unreleased tracks, is a fluffy pop/R&B romp that gives us a glimpse into the evolution of Tesfaye's sound.
